As I understand it, these were written as entries for a humor column in a newspaper.
While there are certainly funny pieces in this collection, a lot of the essays are quite ordinary. The author writes fairly well, and although I did not find the book totally boring, it did not keep me wanting to move onto the next piece either. It's a good book to read when you have short chunks of time, on the beach or in the car, as each essay stands on its own, and all are quite short.

I would not begin to compare the author to Erma Bombeck as one reviewer did. The book is nicely formatted for Kindle, and is well edited. Ionia Froment Top Contributor: Even if you aren't the kind of person who likes memoirs or humor books all that much, I think you might just get a kick out of this book anyway. I know I did. The author provides us with plenty of reasons to smile and nod our heads in agreement as she details some of her hilarious experiences.
This book is anything but politically correct, so if your the kid of person that bothers, this book will drive you crazy. I personally thought it added to the charm. Even if you aren't from Texas trust me you want to read the section of this book entitled "Jalapeno Hazards.
Really, this book is a lot of fun and a light read that is relatively quick, so it is perfect if you don't feel like settling in for a complicated read. On a side note, you might not want to read in public as you may burst out into gales of strange sounds without warning the others around you. One person found this helpful. If you loved the writing of Ivins or Bombeck you will truly love the work of Diana Estill. Most of her humour centers on herself or her family, but you see a wit that comes much closer to home. Diana Estill, like Erma Bombeck, writes about the vagaries of everyday life with the ability to make even the most mundane events funny.
This is a writer with the gift of helping make living worthwhile as did Molly Ivins who is sorely missed. Thank you Diana Estill for keeping alive the type of work we still badly need in our modern world. One person found this helpful 2 people found this helpful. Some are, of course, funnier than others but they are all enjoyable. I was not familiar with her work and was offered a copy of this for free. How happy I am to have had the opportunity. I have added another book of hers to my ever growing "to read" list. Thank you, Diane for a chance to laugh at a time in my life when most things aren't too funny. True stories with a little exaggeration about a hunting husband, handyman dad, children and their progeny and the humor associated with all of them.
There is humor in some of these columns and sometimes there is not. When it's there you want to keep reading and when it's not you wonder why you are reading the book. About what one can expect from a collection. The writing style is wholesome just as I assume is true of the author from her descriptions of herself. I felt at home with the book and was mildly entertained by it as I think you would be.
No, really, she's got to be one of the funniest people around since Erma Bombeck. Not that anyone could replace Erma, ever, but Diana sure comes within close hailing distance of it!
This is my second book by her and they just keep getting better all the time. Have fun with it! You know it's got to be good when you sit there and read the same page s over and over and over and laugh every time.
